We admit, we never thought this game will turn out to be this good.
With a post – Apocalyptic setting and a hack and slash gameplay, Darksiders follows the tried and tested formula of other games in the Action Adventure genre.
Games like Fallout 3 and God of War obviously became huge influences to THQ and Vigil Games in the development of the game.
But what separates Darksiders from these equally fantastic games is the way it puts the player right in the middle of the action. While plenty of games are set in post – Apocalyptic wastelands, Darksiders puts the player right in the middle of the action BEFORE the entire world literally falls apart.
You read it, players will participate in the actual end of the world. How sick is that?
You play as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as you find yourself in the middle of this never-ending battle between Heaven and Hell.
It turns out that years before mankind began, the two kingdoms of Heaven and Hell took a break from tearing each other apart and found a truce. The truce led to the creation of a third kingdom, mankind’s, and Heaven and Hell were to resume their unholy war when the kingdom of man was deemed ready. In other words, the apocalypse.
The two kingdoms will know when if the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse were summoned.
Unfortunately, due to some unexplainable events, somebody or something summoned War, one of the four horsemen. This led to the arrival of forces from both Heaven and Hell on Earth with War caught in the middle.
It is up to the player to find out why War was summoned somewhat prematurely and who or what is behind all of it before both Heaven and Hell tear the world apart.
Darksiders is one of the most surprisingly awesome games to ever come out in a while. This is definitely a great way to start 2010.
