WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010

smackdown_vs_raw_2010

It’s that time of the year when THQ and Yuke’s bring out their annual iteration of the Smackdown vs. Raw franchise right smack in the middle of the annual releases of sports games like NBA 2K, NBA Live and Madden.

Is this year any good for the ailing franchise looking desperately for a complete overhaul? Well, those of you who missed ”GM mode” last year will be pleased to know that they brought it back in Smackdown vs. Raw 2010, sort of.

For the first time, players will be able to create their own story and choose which show will their created storyline flow through. Yes, if you’re dying to get rid of John Cena from Monday Night Raw, this is your chance to finally see it. Have him lose to Goldust for all I care, it’s your choice.

Unfortunately, although the ”create a storyline” feature is promising, fans of the GM mode will be a little disappointed. It’s not quite what GM mode fans were looking for. While you can schedule matches as well as promos, it still doesn’t let you have a set of WWE Superstars exclusive to your show.

Sure, you can use all 60 of the WWE Superstars available in the game in creating different story angles you see fit but it doesn’t let you manage any show exclusively, hence, doesn’t let you compete with another general manager controlled by the A.I.

Still, ”create a story mode” is a fantastic addition to the franchise. At least THQ and Yuke’s are on the right track.
