We are only a few days away from Super Bowl XLIV and we here at Game Previews decided to recreate the big game this Sunday and find out which team will take the championship.
For all of you who didn’t know, the Indianapolis Colts, led by league MVP Peyton Manning, will take on Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints for this year’s Super Bowl title. Manning is the methodical quarterback who likes to read defenses while Brees is the more explosive one who likes to throw it deep.
The Indianapolis Colts won the coin toss and decided to start the game on defense. Big mistake as Reggie Bush took the New Orleans Saints to their own 40-yard line for Drew Brees to start the drive. Seven plays later the Saints scored after Brees connected with Bush for a 9-yard touchdown. Saints lead 7-0.
The Colts answered right back as Peyton Manning connected with Pierre Garcon to tie the game. The Saints couldn’t come up with anything when they got the ball back as the Colts took advantage, scoring a field goal to end the first quarter. Colts take the lead 10-7. At the start of the second quarter, the scoring picked up as both the Colts and the Saints traded touchdowns. The first half ended with the Colts still leading 24-21.
Colts had the ball to start the second half. Unfortunately for them, they just couldn’t come up with anything in their drive. The Colts punt, paving the way for the Saints’ first drive of the half. As soon as Drew Brees got the ball back, they took advantage as Brees once again marched towards Colts territory this time to connect with Marques Colston to take the lead, 28-24.
The Colts answered right back again as Joseph Addai gave the Colts their first touchdown of the half with a 44-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately, Bush returned a punt return for a touchdown merely seconds after Addai’s score to give the Saints the lead. The third quarter ended with the Saints on top, 35-31.
The fourth quarter started with the Saints playing controlled football as they opted to run with the football, with the lead. The two minute warning came with the Saints still leading 35-31 as they went for a 45-yard field goal attempt. Kicker Garret Hartley missed and the Colts got the ball back on offense with under two minutes left in the game.
With 1:48 remaining in Super Bowl XLIV, Peyton Manning and the Colts marched towards Saints territory, needing a touchdown to take the lead and win the game. Then, with just three seconds remaining in the game, Manning connected with Pierre Garcon for a 14-yard touchdown to give the Colts the lead and their second Super Bowl title in Miami.
Colts win 38-35.
